Rajasthan Assembly elections 2018:

Rahul promises farm loan waiver if Congress voted to power

While promising to waive farm loans in 10 days if elected to power in Rajasthan, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was breaking the trust of people wherever he was giving speeches at rallies ahead of the Assembly polls. “People have completely lost faith in Mr. Modi. They have realised that he tells lies,” he said.

Addressing three public meetings in Rajasthan, Mr. Gandhi said the Congress would waive farmers’ loans within 10 days of government formation in the State. He said the Congress government in Punjab and the Congress-Janata Dal Secular (JD-S) alliance government in Karnataka had waived farm loans after he made the same promise.

Mr. Gandhi addressed the rallies in Pokhran, Jalore and Jodhpur after offering prayers at the Ajmer Sharif dargah and Lord Brahma’s temple in Pushkar.

The Congress president said Mr. Modi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had failed to fulfil their promises to provide employment.

“Employment is the biggest challenge in the country. The Congress Chief Minister will work for 18 hours a day to help youth get jobs,” he said.

“India has reached its current status because of its people. Our Prime Minister says from the Red Fort that the country was sleeping till he came to power. With statements like this, he insults public sentiments,” Mr. Gandhi added.

He accused the BJP and Mr. Modi of becoming “arrogant” after winning elections.
